IMC When The ISP Dies

IMC When The ISP Dies

Post by Shadwell, Scot » Wed, 11 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

My service provider is in a knock down, drag out with the phone company
and as a result my T1 has been shaky at best for the last five days.
We've noticed that when the T1 goes away, that it can take at least 5-10
minutes to log an Outlook 97 user into the Exchange 5.5 SP2 server
running under NT4.0 SP4. We also notice that once the client does get in
that Exchange is a very slow responder. My provider has been up for four
hours solid, so I don't know if I will need the answer to this one.
Would stopping the IMC service speed things up internally? Or is this a
DNS/WINS issue? (I do have a WINS server.)

Thanks,

Scott Shadwell

This is DNS/WINS (name resolution) issue. From your description it appears
that your user's computers are trying to use ISP DNS server to find IP addr
of ExchServ.

Do you give your clients IP Addr. by DHCP, check for WINS Server
and HYBRID Node for Name Resolution
