I hv. just built a win2K DC and migrated all NT domain
users to 2K domain. All of a sudden my win2K DC cudn't
boot as it said boot.ini was missing.Out of great
difficulty i managed to restore the boot.ini ( to add tot
he problem my server was raid 5 :)_. Now, we r buying the
backup media only next week. So till then if i am to back
up my AD and also Exchange running on the server how do i
do that .... I wud appreciate if someone can give me a
insight as i don't want to lose my only DC... MY server
for the second DC is on itz way from manufacturer... hence
this issue...

Thankz

I would suggest taking just a PC, ANY PC (it could really be even a laptop
or something) and making it a DC in your domain, as a second DC. You don't
have to do anything on it, just join it to the domain and DCPROMO it up.

After you get your real server, just DCPROMO this one back down after you
have the new server up and running. That way, you will have a fail-back DC.

You could also use NTBackup to backup your System State information on a DC
to a file and then copy this file off to another computer - that will
essentially give you a backup of your domain.

Hi there ,

Can I restore System State Information of a DC to a new DC ? Bc next month I
will receive new servers n all the hardware config is different which will
push me to reinstall 2k servers. I suppose SID's will be problem n dunno yet
what to do. Longest manual way it to backup everybodies mailbox as pst file
n reinstall all, recreate users ...
If possible can someone help how to restore AD to a new server. Thxs.

1. BCC distribution list - major, major problem?

We have discovered - the hard way - that if a BCC recipient replies using
'reply all' to a mail message sent from Exchange (V4.0.410.59 for W95) then
all TO, CC, and BCC recipients receive a copy of the reply.  This is
independent of whether the addressees are reached via our MS post office
server or our SMTP internet mail server.

Not being a regular on this NG, I presume that this is already a well
recorded problem and that we are not the first to suffer.  Does anybody
know if Microsoft are aware of this and what their position/advice is on
it?

Can we change Exchange's set-up to make it behave like every other mail
tool that I have met; i.e. that when we send a message we can be assured
that each the TO and CC recipients do not receive any indication about BCC
recipients; and that when a BCC recipient replies to or forwards messages
they cannot inadvertently inform the TO, CC or other BCC recipients that
the message has been blind copied to anyone at all?

If not, and if the problem doesn't lie elsewhere, why have Microsoft
implemented BCC this way?  IMHO it's somewhere between useless, pointless
and a major, major problem.

Please let me know if you have experienced this problem too.
