Can someone give me 10 reasons why I should migrate from
Novell Groupwise ?

I can provide these generic reasons in the meantime:
- Works with BlackBerry handhelds using centralized server. In my
experience this is often enough reason in and by itself for my customers.
- Public Folders are much more functional, useful, and well received by
the user community than GroupWise's approach of shared folders (GW 6 may
have improved on this a bit, I can't recall)
- The user community seems to universally prefer prefer Outlook on
Exchange to Outlook on GroupWise or the GroupWise client on GroupWise
- Superior integration with Active Directory
- Far better application development environment for workgroup /
workflow apps
- Many more 3rd party enhancements / addons for Exchange than GroupWise
- Cheaper to administer (my personal experience, your mileage may vary)
- Multiple addresses, especially those with periods (.) in them, are
much easier to configure in Active Directory / Exchange
- Better web interface (personal opinion. I liked GW's 5.5 interface
better than Exchange 5.5's though)
- Better scalability including replication of data in Public Folders
- Novell is not exactly the healthiest or focused of companies. They may
get bought out, and GroupWise could well fade away afterward
- Low market share of GroupWise may cause Novell to drop it anyway
- May allow you to finish killing off NetWare if you're running
GroupWise on NetWare instead of Windows
Again, you need a business reason to do this. If you're user community is
happy with what they have and you are as well then don't change.
Over the years I've implemented NT4/Exchange 5.5, Windows 2000/Exchange
2000, NetWare 4.x & 5.x / GroupWise 4.x & 5.x. I've now moved all of my
customers off of GroupWise and all have told me they're happier with
Exchange than GroupWise. I have never moved anyone back to GroupWise.
Good luck! /gary mcdonnell
