Can't Query Exchange Linked to SQL Server

Can't Query Exchange Linked to SQL Server

I linked an Exchange folder to SQL Server 7.0 according to instruction in
msdn, but no query statement, including the statement given by MSDN, can
successfully return records from the linked table. How can one select from
an Exchange linked server in SQL 7.0?

By the way, what do you make of this contradiction?
"The Exchange Web Store should be located in the same computer as SQL
Server. Web Stores located in other computers cannot be accessed using the
OLE DB Provider for Exchange." -MSDN article

"WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL SQL SERVER 2000 on the SAME server as Exchange
2000.  This installs MDAC 2.6 which is not supported with Exchange 2000 yet.
MDAC 2.6 will be supported with SP1 of Exchange 2000." -MSDN sample Exchange
Training application ReadMe.txt.
