What exactly are you trying to do? You start by saying that you want to
repair ME - then suddenly it seems that you want to install XP.
If it's a simple install of XP you want to do - then you can begin the
install simply by booting from the CD drive containing the XP disk.
If you want to repair ME - please describe the error messages you get when
booting the system (presumably there is something to to with VMM32 in the
message - please give the EXACT wording of the message). Can you boot to
Safe Mode OK?
It may be that, with the problems you had with VMM32, and your attempted
solution, you have now left yourself with no way forward to repair ME,
except to do an over-the-top reinstallation of ME.
Note - if you have upgraded IE to IE6 on ME, you will have problems on the
reinstall, and will have to subsequently remove the whole IE installation,
and reinstall it.

My computer does not go into windows at all. It goes
into a loop. It just starts... then when it tries to
open windows it automatically reboots. So I can only use
the computer from DOS. How can I install XP from Dos?

1. backing up windows xp+reinstalling windows xp+cd-r problems
from the begining I can write CD-RW's and I once wrote a
CD-R, but can now can only write CD-RW's and cannot write
CD-R's, I have tried using different brands of CD-R, but
whenever I try to write a CD-r I get an error message
stating that the disk is no longer usable. when i try
copying audio files using Windows Media Player I get the
error message "invalid alignment was specified"
I suspected that the CD-RW driver may be corrupted but
found that I have an IDE device that uses IDE controlers
on the motherboard. I was then advised to reinstall
Windows XP but I bought the computer with Windows XP
already installed and don't have a Windows XP disk.
Please give me any and all advice that you think might be
of use to me, it would be much appreciated, thank you.
