OLE 2.0 error message in WP for Win 6.1

Post by Sunil Haza » Wed, 03 Apr 1996 04:00:00

On some of our lab machines (Micron Pentium 90, WFW 3.11), while trying to
run WordPerfect for Windows 6.1, the following message appears:

"The necessary information to run an OLE 2.0 application cannot be found
in the Windows registration database. WordPerfect for Windows cannot be
executed without this information. Registering the information contained
in OLE2.REG may fix this problem"

We have reinstalled WP for Win 6.1 several times, it works fine the first
couple of times, but then the above message appears again. BTW, OLE2.REG
file is in the c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory but contains a whole list of
HKEY commands.

Any help on what is causing this problem or a solution will be appreciated.

Sunil,

That's what OLE2.REG is supposed to look like.  Run REGEDIT.EXE (should
be in your windows directory).  Select File|Merge Registration File, open
OLE2.REG and click OK.  That will register the OLE2 information for the system
and should solve your problem.  If not, try rebuilding REG.DAT from scratch.

I'm not sure what the problem is (sounds like something is corrupting
your registration, maybe in reg.dat also) but I would consider upgrading
to win32s, which includes some patches to OLE that have made it more
stable (although not any faster).

Strange as it may seem, this problem can NOT be fixed by re-installing or
trying
to fix up the registration file! It is caused by the installation of
another program
(often Netscape) which writes "newer" versions of some of the OLE 2.0
files into
the Windows System directory. Re-installing doesn't help, because it will
not
overwrite the newer OLE files. Two ways to fix this: (1) delete all your
OLE 2.0-related
DLL files, THEN re-install, or (2) Go to the Microsoft home page and sniff
around
until you find the free OLE 2.02 update patch (that's what I did). It has
some bizarre
counterintuitive name like WW1116.EXE. Download and install the patch, and
that will solve the problem.

Note that Microsoft is now up to OLE # 2.03 (when I downloaded it
a week ago).

1. Error message when startin WP 6.1

Hello everybody,

Maybe someone can advise me with the following problem:

When starting up Word Perfect 6.1 for Windows (I am using Windows 3.1,
Dutch version) the following error message appears:

Cannot open main window of file manager

Clicking OK stops the WP start up and returns to WP61 Icon again.

Is there someone who can help me and tell me how to have this problem
solved?

Thanks and regards
