Chat sounds

We are unable to get the appropriate sounds while using chat on a
Compaq Presario CDS524 sound system.  Instead of the ringin.wav,
ringout.wav that we have set to play, we get a ding.wav instead.  When
we go into control panel to set the sounds, we can set them and test
them and they work fine, but when we get a call through chat, all we
get is a ding.  Any ideas what's causing this or how we would fix it?

Go into your win.ini file in your windows directory, and look for the
section entitled "[sounds]" (no quotes).  Within that section, you should
see settings for various sounds, like "RingIn=" and "RingOut=".  Edit these
settings directly, and make sure you include the exact path to the wav
files if they are not in your windows or windows\system directory.
Example:

[Sounds]
RingIn=ringin.wav,Chat Incoming Ring
RingOut=ringout.wav,Chat Outgoing Ring

No doubt the current setting in win.ini reflects "ding.wav" instead of
ringin.wav.  Make sure you save your edited changes, then exit windows and
restart windows for the changes to take effect.  Remember to set RingIn and
RingOut= to the exact path of the wav files IF they don't reside in your
windows directories.  If they ARE in your windows directories, you don't
need to specify a path, as windows always looks in it's own directories for
files first.  Example:

[Sounds]
RingIn=C:\chat\ringin.wav,Chat Incoming Ring
RingOut=C:\chat\ringout.wav,Chat Outgoing Ring

Good luck...
