Folkware HTTPD and perl scripts

Post by Nick Horroc » Sat, 10 Feb 1996 04:00:00

Hi,

I've been trying to get perl scripts to run with Folkware httpd and
Win95.

This is their instructions and what happens;

Quote:>To run PERL scripts you can put PERL.EXE in any directory.

Doesn't work at all unless perl.exe is in cgi-bin dir.

Quote:>Then you need to associate .pl extension with PERL.EXE using
>FileManager or Explorer in Win95.

Done this OK

Quote:> In your HTML page or FORM write
>in action:"/cgi-bin/sample.pl">. FolkWeb will find out what executable
>is associated with this extension if it is not executable itself and run it
>passing script name as parameter.

When the script is run the output just goes to a dos box/shell NOTHING
is returned to the server and nothing happens until I close the Dos
box/shell then I just get a 404 not found error

Quote:>Download PERLSAMP.ZIP from software library.

I tried to get this but link is very slow ( 0.1k/sec) so I gave up.

Make sure that when you associate the pl extension that you use the
complete path to where perl.exe resides.  i.e
c:\folkweb\cgi-bin\perl.exe...BTW you are right perl.exe must reside in
the cgi-bin directory, along with whatever scripts you are trying to
execute..

You will need the sample.zip file....I can e mail it to you if you
want..

I just got this working today...

Hope this helps

Jim

1. Win-httpd and DOS-CGI for Perl Scripts (HELP!!!!!)

I posted the following article yesterday.  Can someone PLEASE help me
to solve this problem?

                                        Thanks!

Yes, PLEASE, somebody respond!  I have been getting the exact same error!

Does the Perl program actually have to be within the server's document space?

I have it in c:\perl and the library scripts are in c:\perl\lib.  I have
included the Perl executable in my path.  I have adjusted my PIF, as the
instructions for CGI-DOS say to do.  (I must admit, though, that I don't
understand why I must type /C before perl.exe.)

Someone help!  Win-httpd installed so damned easy, but I really want it for
Perl script processing, and -- like the last writer -- I don't have the
tools available for Visual Basic development.
