Best way to back up Windows ME

Post by Daron Rya » Mon, 15 Apr 2002 12:39:46

Hello,

I have windows ME installed on a 20gb drive divided into to 10gb partitions.
I also have 20gb removable drive formatted with one partition. Ideally I
would I like make exact duplicates of built in drive (including formatting
details etc) on my removable drive. Does anyone know of public domain
software that could do this ? If not does anyone know how to make simple
copy of the files from the 1st partition in way that can be set and
forgotten (that is a process that does not involve continual questions from
the computer about whether or not to continue) ?

Regards,
Daron.

Daron, the feature that you are referring to is called as
Data Mirroring and hence, maybe you need to install
Windows 2000 instead of Windows ME which gives you this
option. As far as I know the available freewares are
nothing great to write home about. There are some
shareware available but then again they do not give you
the full data mirroring feature and only give you the
option to backup data. One such software that I have come
across is located at the following link. However, do not
take my word for it as I have not tried out this software
and have no first hand information on this product. The
link is,
http://folderclone.com/
Maybe, you can go to google.com and search for Data
Mirroring softwares and maybe you will come up with
something that matches your requirement.

Regards NickM.

Best way to back up Windows ME

If you're serious about drive mirroring, you should look into a hardware
RAID or mirroring drive controller card and multiple hard drives.  If you're
seeking a simple backup solution, look into drive imaging software that's
available.  Your removable drive will be so slow that any mirroring process
you can apply in realtime will drag performance right down the toilet.

1. Best way to uninstall Service Pack back ups?

I have a fresh install of Windows 2000, and in the past couple of days I
have installed SP 3, all critical updates (except IE6 SP 1), and all
security updates. I chose the install option that allows roll back, if
necessary.

All went well, and I now have 200 MB of uninstall files that I don't need.
What is the best way to get rid of them? Simply delete all the
"$NtUninstallQ*$" and "$NtServicePackUninstall$" folders, or is there more
to it than that?
