I guess it maybe a "power" issue. You seem to have demonstrated that the
card does function in the slot re CanoScan works. You seem to have
established the HDD works by running it directly connected to a USB port.
I assume you are running the drive powered through the Belkin Card (I have
the same card connected to a IBM Travelstar HDD). On my enclosure (dual USB
and Firewire), I can power the drive by supplying power directly to the
enclosure, can you do that and have you tried that?
My drive works OK by powering it through the power connection to the card
but will not run without the power supply connected (to the card). On the
other hand my mouse does not need the power connected to the card for it to
work. The mouse does not require the same amount of power as the drive.
