Multi-boot system

I have a multi-boot system with XP and 98. It works fine
however, XP say it can not find the modem. While on 98 the
modem works fine. How could I solve this problem?

Is that modem supported under XP?

Download the latest drivers for XP, for that modem. Go into Device Manager
and completely removie the modem.   Power down.   If possible, physically
remove the modem and power up into XP.  Power down again, re-install the
modem (preferably to a different slot if that's possible).   Bring the
system back up into XP, and allow XP to locate the modem and install
drivers, specifying the new drivers you downloaded.

1. Win XP Multi-boot system settings question

What do the following refer to:

multi(0)
disk(0)
rdisk(0)

in the System Startup section of the Startup and Recovery
section?

The full line reads:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft
Windows XP WD 120 gig" /fastdetect

I'm trying to get my XP system to recognize a Windows ME
system I installed on a different drive/partition, but
don't know how to set up the line properly.

I have three drives, all of which I have installed XP
with one also running ME (on a separate partition than
XP).  I get the choice between running XP or ME when I
don't power up the XP-only disks, but when I power up all
the drives I don't get the XP/ME choices.

PS:  All I'm really trying to do is get Sid Meier's Alpha
Centauri to run on my XP system.  It installed fine with
ME (hence the reason I re-installed ME), but can't get
SMAC to install while running XP.

It's late so forgive me if I'm not clear.

Thanks for any assistance.
