Uninstall Windows Media Player under Windows XP Pro?

Post by Robert Richar » Sun, 10 Mar 2002 11:32:17

Forum,

Currently, I have an ATI Dual Radeon VE video card, it
includes a DVD hardware decoder. To work properly, no
other software DVD decoders can be installed with my ATI.
How can I uninstall the Windows Media Player under
Windows XP Pro? I have been searching my computer and the
internet all day, with no sucess of finding clues.

Can you help?

Windows Media Player does not contain a software DVD decoder so you
don't need to bother.

Forum,

My understanding from the DVD decoder card companies is
the following: only one decoder system can be installed
on a computer, either hardware or software.

Sometimes, residues of previous installation remains on a
computer, thus apparently preventing the new system to
run adequately.

This is why I want to uninstall Windows XP Pro Media
Player.

I want to believe you.

Last evening, I was able to listen to a DVD The Matrix by
using Windows Media Player. Was it only playing as a
video?

Thanks for next reply.

Uninstall Windows Media Player under Windows XP Pro?

Hello again,

Now, when I try to play the same dvd with Windows Media
Player, I have an error message saying that I need a dvd
decoder to be able to read this dvd. Probably, Windows
Media Player can read a dvd via a decoder.

Yup!  You've hit the nail the head.  What you seem to have succeeded in
removing is the MPEG2 DLL - you have achieved your aim.  Now you can
reinstall the ATI DLL. :-)
