Help and Support

Post by Ed O'Brie » Sun, 22 Dec 2002 01:24:13

Hitting Start/Help and Support, I am getting the error
message:

"Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system
service is not running".

"To fix this problem, start the service 'Help and
Support'".

I have tried everywhere in the KB without success. Any
suggestions?

Ed

Go to Start>Administrative Tools>Services and double click on Help and
Support from the list. Click Start, then OK.

Help and Support

Hi, Joli.

Sorry to be so long coming back. First I lost my bearings,
posted the message again in "General" got some help and
then managed to sort it out by doing as you suggest, but I
had to go to the 'Log on' tab and enable the Profile. How
it got to be disabled in the first place, I don't know!

Incidentally, on my PC Administrative Tools is not on the
start menu! I find it in Control Panel. Weird, what?

Thanks again.

Thanks, Kelly. I think I'll leave it where it is.
Hopefully, I won't be needing it too often!!

1. Help and support on Help-and-Support

In my WinXP Help-and-Support window, I have a "favorites" item titled
"Command Line A-Z". Stumbled across it sometime in the last year and
marked it for future ref. Lists all the commands available in a
command window. Very nice. Now I would like to share this with my
friends...

How the heck do I pass a link to this feature? Or instructions on how
to find it? Of course "Locate in Contents" button says its not in the
contents, and I should look in the "Search or Index" well, it is not
in the search or index.

After some thrashing, I found the file that contains the info I am
looking for. It is in C:\windows\help\ntcmds.chm -- supposedly a help
file. So I double click this file, think I could just execute it. Fat
chance--It just says

"The topics in this Help file are integrated into Help and Support
Center. To view these topics, click Start, and then click Help and
Support." AAARRRGGGHH!

Hope I never lose my help-favorites. Wonder what else is in help that
is not in the index or search.

Anyway, does anyone know how to find this feature (and the other stuff
not in the Index and Search?)
