Advice needed for office setup

Advice needed for office setup

Hi folks,

Need some advice on how to best setup a remote connection between two
offices. Here's the deal:

Two dental offices owned by the same dentist, about 25 miles apart. The
practice management software will be running on the main office only. This
office will have a Win 2k Server and about 6 Win XP Pro workstations.
Because of its remote location, we need to go with a satellite broadband
(ug!) and will share the connection with ICS or some similar program
(Sygate, Winproxy, etc.)

The second office will be a peer-to-peer network of about 3 computers and
will have a DSL broadband connection.

Here's the dilemma: I want all the computers in the second office to have
access to the electronic scheduler on the server in the main office. I want
each room in that second office to be able to schedule patients directly
from their room, instead of the front desk.

I thought about doing a Remote Desktop setup, which I think would work great
IF I only needed one computer from the second office to connect to the main
office; it's my understanding that Remote Desktop does not allow for
multiple simultaneous users.

Can anyone recommend another option? I thought about VPN, but am worried
that it might be difficult for the dentist to troubleshoot. I also was
looking at GoToMyPc.com, but wasn't sure if they allow for multiple users.
The other concern is that the server in the main office is in the ba*t
and does not have easy access to a phone line; Internet access through one
of the upstairs workstations seems the easiest.

Any help is appreciated!!

LL

Advice needed for office setup

I setup something similar with a local dentist between his
house and his office.  We use both VPN and RAS with
Windows workstations and PC Dental 98.  The VPN solution
was a bit pricey.  It was from Cisco using the 806 routers
and it worked out well.  It leased out the DHCP addresses
to the workstations.  We installed the workstation pieces.

The only other thing I could suggest is dropping Windows
2000 Terminal Services in there, getting the licensing
server setup, and then having the remote office connect,
again, through VPN.

Correct, but if it is limited to two users, you can use Remote
Administration mode...
