Please help...TD Height works in Netscape, not IE 6.0

Post by Jerry Russel » Sat, 18 Jan 2003 10:04:30

I have the code below. On Netscape 7.1, it gives exactly what I am
looking for. the top and bottom cells on the left are fixed height at
5px, and the center grows to fit the size of the right column. On IE
6.0, the top and bottom cells on the left grow and the center stays
very small.

What do I need to get this to work on IE 6.0? I looked at Microsoft's
HTML docs for <TD> tag and I am doing exactly how they specify..

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
   <title>knj</title>
   <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;
charset=ISO-8859-1">
   <meta name="author" content="">
</head>
<body>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%">
    <tbody>
      <tr>
        <td valign="top" height="5" bgcolor="#00cccc"></td>
        <td valign="top" height=100 rowspan="3" colspan="1">dfg<br>
            line 1<br>
            line 2<br>
            line 3<br>
        </td>
      </tr>
      <tr>
        <td valign="top" bgcolor="#000066"></td>
      </tr>
      <tr>
        <td valign="top" width=50 height="5" bgcolor="#33cc00"></td>
       </tr>
   </tbody>
</table>
  <br>
</body>
</html>

Change the line from
<td valign="top" bgcolor="#000066"></td>
to
<td valign="top" bgcolor="#000066" height="100"></td>

Hi Kendrick,

  That works for this example, but the right side is not necessarily
100. It could grow depending on how many rows of text I have in there
- and I won't know how much it grows. Or, if the user makes the font
larger for the right, then it may not be 100 pixels high but 120
pixels high, then the center on the left will only be 100, but the top
and bottom will be be larger than 5 pixels.

Any other ideas?

Jerry

You can get the height of the TD element at runtime. This can resolve the
problem

<body language=javascript onload="return getHeight()">

<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%" ID="Table1"
language=javascript onresize="return Table1_onresize()">
      <tr>
        <td valign="top" height="5" bgcolor="#00cccc"></td>
        <td valign="top" id="tdbox1" height=100 rowspan="3" colspan="1"
language=javascript>dfg<br>
            line 1<br>
            line 2<br>
            line 3<br>
            line 1<br>
            line 2<br>
            line 3<br>
         </td>
      </tr>
      <tr>
        <td valign="top" id="tdbox2" bgcolor="#000066"></td>
      </tr>
      <tr>
        <td valign="top" width=50 height="5" bgcolor="#33cc00"></td>
       </tr>
</table>
<script language=javascript>
<!--

function Table1_onresize() {
 return getHeight()

Quote:}

function getHeight() {
 tdbox2.height = tdbox1.height;

Quote:}

//-->
</script>

problems with QT 6, video was fine, but when I run it in
normal mode I get the lines and half picture
Any suggestions?
