Playing avi files fluently not possible with popular browsers - only with virtualdub

I tried to view an avi film (div3 encoded) with some popular browsers
(MS Windows Mediaplayer 7.01, Axialis 4.02, Blaze Media)
But ALL players do not play the file fluently. Arbitrarily nearly every second it stops
for some millseconds before resuming. OK I know I have only a 500 MHz Pentium processor.
But when I play the same file with VirtualDub 1.4.9 the file is shown WITHOUT any
interruption. This shows that it must work somehow even on such a low-MHz processor.

Unfortunately VirtualDub doesn't support full screen modus so I am still searching for
an appropriate AVI-browser. Can someone recommend a player which is able to
display a film efficiently with no *ing interruptions?

Thank you
Carl
