S5 + PC Card Modem Adapter + COM1 Pc Card modem

S5 + PC Card Modem Adapter + COM1 Pc Card modem

Post by Morten Lindstro » Thu, 11 Dec 1997 04:00:00

Proudly I went home from work today, with a new PC Card from Com1
(MC218) + a Pc card host from Psion, and hoped to make connection to
*space from my S5...but that was not an easy task.

The light on the PC Card adapter blinks as it should when powered, but
when I insert the PC Card, a ticking from something which sounds like a
buzzer from inside the Card host starts....and the green light on the
card host is gone ....

Anyone else out here who have been into the same trouble as I ?
Anyone from Psion here listening? What shall/can I do to get my pc card
work in the Psion PC Card modem adapter ??

regards

 Morton,

I am able to connect using the PC card host and Dacom PC card modem when
using a normal phone line, but I get exactly the same problem as you when I
try to connect through my Nokia 8110. It worked perfectly well with Easyfax
ie before I installed "Message Suite."
If I get a reply from Psion on the problem I'll post it here.

The buzzing noise is the selftest failure on the card adaptor. It
usually means that the card is incompatible with the adaptor, although
it could be a genuine failure.

I got a similar problem with a Gold Card Global v34 modem in GSM mode,
which was eventually sorted out after a lot of pressure on my part by
new card firmware.

I understand that the new 56k PsionDacom Goldcards have similar
problems.

Not much I can suggest, unless you have can see if someone else has is
using Com1 modems and can tell you which version of the firmware they
are using.
