1280x1024x256 at 60 Hz with Stealth Pro

Does anyone know if a Diamond Stealth Pro with 2MB VRAM will support 1280x
1024x256 resolution at 60 Hz using the IBM S3-16M display drivers for OS/2?
I tried this using a fixed-frequency Sony 19" monitor which only supports
this resolution, and it did not sync when the WPS came up. The monitor does
sync at this resolution and frame rate, however, when using the STLMODE
setup utility for the Stealth Pro.

Any help would be appreciated.

right at this very moment, using the release version of the S3
drivers (s3_16m).

I didn't do anything special to set it up. Just followed the supplied
instructions and it works perfectly. It also worked well with the beta
drivers, though the release drivers fix some problems in other modes that
I was having with the beta's.

I set the card up using the stlmode utility, before installing the S3
drivers. If you have done this, then I don't know why it's not working
for you people.

I would also love to know what mode the new S3 drivers use at
1280x1024x8.  I am having a hard time convincing myself that my
display is running at 60 Hz non-interlaced which my monitor does
without pain to the eyes inside STLMODE with it's mostly black
background.

Yes, I have recently tried the release-level s3_16m drivers, with the same
result. I think I have narrowed the problem down to creating the right
SVGADATA file with the SVGA ON command.  I think this needs to be done under
native DOS since WPS won't sync on the monitor, but I have an all-HPFS drive.
Also SVGA.EXE doesn't seem to run from a floppy.  I plan to continue working
on this when I have the time, but right now I am using smaller multi-sync
monitors instead.
The last part of your message seems to have been cut off by your .sig.  I am
interested in what else you had to say.

I was asking if anyone had made the s3-16m beta drivers work. It turns
out (see thread on S3 and refresh rates) that some peole were able to
get even that level to work at 60 Hz. I received a pmi file from one
such gentleman, and tried it on my machine. No go, tho' his BIOS level
was 1.12 compared to my 1.11. I have now tried the release level drivers
without success, and beleive that it must be a BIOS problem. What level
are you on ??? Anyone out there know someone who works on the team and
can verify the required BIOS level ??

I have some good news and bad news regarding my experiences with the new
drivers and SVGA application.  The good news is that the SVGADATA.PMI file
generated under DOS (SVGA ON DOS) and by the driver installation is FINALLY
identical except for comments.  The bad news is that I still can't run SVGA
inside an OS/2 full-screen DOS session after driver installation without
bringing down the whole system.

With regards to the refresh rate, I haven't noticed a change from the beta.
I still have a hard time believing my monitor is being driven at 60 Hz
(at 1280x1024) given the severe eye pain I endure when bright images are
displayed.  The first poster's comment about PM not being able to sync to
his fixed frequency monitor seems to confirm this.

1. stuck at 60 hz

Can anyone tell me how to get above 60 Hz for my video refresh rate on
either of two machines?  I'm running:

computer #1) a Matrox Millenium with 2m memory and a 20" Mitsubishi
Diamond Scan 20M monitor.

computer #2) Integrated ATI 3D Rage Pro 2x AGP with a Dell 20" monitor.

Resolution doesn't matter -- even at VGA or 640x480x256, the fastest I
can get is 60 Hz.  I've also tried various drivers on both machines with
no success.

On the Matrox, I didn't find anything that would help in the MGA
Settings folder in System Setup, and when I open the System folder in
System Setup, there's nothing above 60, either.  The only window
offering any choices is the resolution window.

Same thing on the ATI: there's nothing above 60.

Any idea where to start?

Thanks for any help.
