Help with restoring tapes (BA/2)

Post by Eric Lavits » Mon, 27 Jan 1997 04:00:00

I recently purchased a CTT8000 IDE tape drive bundled with Back Again/2 to
replace my Colorado Jumbo 1400 and Colorado Backup for OS/2. The drive is
read compatible with the older QIC-3020 tapes from the 1400, but BA/2 hangs
the system every time I try to read one of the tapes. Does anyone know a good
solution for getting the data off these things under OS/2 with my setup?

Thanks,
-Eric

1. BA/2 Pro 4.00i + old HP C-1533A tape: tape died, what new tapes compatible?

Hello!

For the last 6 years I used a SCSI tape HP C-1533A and BA/2 pro 4
for backups. During the last few months the tape started so develop
problems - it refused to recognize partially filled tapes more
and more frequently. At first using a cleaning cassete before every
backup/restore helped but lately, the tape stopped recognizing
any tape, even when I attempted to initialize a tape. So, apparently
I'll have to buy a new tape. I looked at the HP site and found that
C-1533A is no longer manufactured and tips regarding upgrade from
it consist of "we apologise for the inconvenience". The list of the
supported tapes in my BA/2 directory is from 1996 and a visit at the
CDS site didn't reveiled any new list (my BA/2 Pro is of version 4.00i).

Can anyone give me any advice regarding what HP models (with SCSI interface)
can read tapes created with C1533A (DDS-2)?
Does anyone uses BA/2 Pro 4 with SCSI tape of the latest models and DDS-2 DAT
cassetes (120m, 4GB native capacity)? I would like to know what models of
tapes should I buy in order to be able to use the same software (including
driver) or at least, with as little changes in the software as possible?

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP ! ! !
