Light Table crashes WPS

Post by James Pri » Fri, 15 Nov 1996 04:00:00

I've installed the Practice Viewer upgrade for JPEG support in Warp's
Light Table folders which has worked OK for a few folders with a few
images - a much-needed improvement :)

However last night I was happily creating thumbnails for a couple of
directories containing an assortment of GIF, PNG & JPG files (PNG
support would be nice!) and then wondered what would happen if I
interrupted the process (one folder had >50 images, the other ~20) so I
closed the LT folders & then re-opened them once CPU activity had
dropped back to ~zero. This consistently crashed the WPS very quickly
(SYS3172 IIRC, whatever that means - my OS/2 machine is at home), which
then reloaded itself successfully. This repeated when opening either
folder one-at-a-time, some time after the folder had become repopulated
with thumbnails - previously-created thns were visible OK. Eventually I
got fed-up and deleted the LT's... :(

Ne1 else experienced this? Is it just PVU? It's putting me off
registering...  (tho' now BMT has a secure server It'll be easier)

(My system: Warp 3.0 + FP22, 24MB RAM, DX2-66, ET4000 W32p 2MB DRAM,
 1024x768x65k desktop)

Cheers,
        James.

I had similar problems with the Light Tables. They are EXTREMELY
flakey/buggy in WARP v4.0.

I've found GIF's (about 50% of them) crash my light folders (and system)
I switched to Warp v4 last weekend and haven't tried the lightfolders
yet under v4 yet but I don't have to much hope.  I belive I heard that
v4 does jpeg's also but I'm not sure.

I had this problem previous, but I haven't had this problem with Warp V4.

Same experience with WARP3.0. No problems under WARP4.0 FWIW.

Oh great ... so it's fixed in Warp 4 but it's _not_ fixed in any of the
FixPacks upto 22 (!) for Warp 3 & I can't afford to upgrade & my colleagues
are NOT impressed with this instability :(

(though it does show the WPS recovering well <grin>)

To whom should I report this? The UK support is a tad unresponsive...

Cheers,
          James

I can tell you that the light table in Warp 4 is still very delicate and
a JPEG with an error in it that will still view in another viewer will hang
all light tables and the associated IBM viewer.

1. Light table crashes when displaying this...

Foolish me, I tried it.  I have about 250 Megs free (starting with a 20 Meg
swapfile) and it filled it all trying to display that gif from the
lighttable.

I'm too tired to report it now, but I'll try to remember to do it tomorrow.
