FP32 -> FP36: CSF doesn't see Base OS as serviceable

Post by Dominique Piva » Tue, 09 Jun 1998 04:00:00

I have FP32 installed (VER /R reports 3.00 Rev. 8.260) and I was trying to
apply FP36. The Corrective Service Facility only reports MMOS/2 as a
serviceable product, not the Base Operating System itself.

How can I "force" the CSF program to recognize the Base OS?

SYSLEVEL gives the following information about the Base OS:

        IBM OS/2 Base Operating System
        Version 3.00     Component ID 562274700
        Type 0C
        Current CSD level: XR02110
        Prior   CSD level: XRU3003

I was just wondering about the current CSD: shouldn't Warp 3 Connect start
with "3"?

TIA, Dominique

Just delete (or rename) the \OS2\INSTALL\LOG*.OS2 and \MMOS2\INSTALL\LOG*.MM2
files and then run your FP by booting from the Kickers. That will almost
certainly force it to update everything.

Good luck,

Buddy

Aha. You installed a graphics driver afterwards, I would guess. ATI?

This (naughtily) overwrites the SYSLEVEL file.

Get you installation disks. One of the early ones (0, 1 or 2) contains
SYSLEVEL.OS2. Copy this into \OS2\INSTALL on your boot drive. Then
try again.

Yes it should. You've installed some video drivers from S3 (probably) that
have replaced the SYSLEVEL.OS2 file in \OS2\INSTALL with the 2.11 version.
Copy the one off the install diskettes (try the second or third diskette)
into that directory and you'll be away. It's in the fixpack readme BTW.

Thanks, now that you're saying it, this is most certainly exactly what
happened (I have an S3 Trio64). In fact, I used Windoze Write to edit the
string "XR02110" back into "XRU3003" and FP36 happily installed.

Thanks to Buddy and Bob too.

1. >>>> WebExplorer doesn't drag&save pictures anymore :-(

Hi folks!

Recently I noticed that I wasn't able anymore to drag a picture from a displayed
WWW page to a hard disk folder in order to save it there. First I thought there
was a possibility to preserve from this, but now I created my own pages and I'm
not allowed to save my own (still local) pictures by dragging.

What's gone wrong? Any ideas? Please post to Usenet if you got a hint, since our
mailing server seems to be down these days   :-(

BTW - the problem showed up with Warp for Windows, no CSD Level, and now
with FixPack #8 installed.

Any help appreciated,
thanks,

Juergen
