I have encountered this phenomenon before. Several times a particular GIF
would cause a light table reference to fail as seen above. My solution was to
have a test light table folder and create the light table reference to that
folder. If this caused the error then I could delete the test folder and
try again with a different GIF. If the reference created a correct light
table object then I could drag it over to my production light table folder.
The danger with using only one light table folder is that if you get a
reference created in that folder there is usually no way to clear up the
problem with out deleting the entire folder.
