Whats needed for TCP/IP Programming ?

Post by Andrew Igglede » Mon, 07 Apr 1997 05:00:00

I've currently got an application compiled used MS C5 & C6 and i need to
put in some TCP/IP messaging to a remote host. What products do i need and
do i need to get a different compiler. (preferrably not)

TIA

Someone actually has a TCPIP web page covering this subject. Unfortunately, due to *2* dead hard
drives in the last week, I have lost the url.
Perhaps someone else knows it.

I don't know of ANYONE that does anything with MS compilers on OS/2
any more.

As far as TCP/IP programming goes.... the cheapest way is to go with
the EMX GCC compiler. There's a lot of code to download, but you'll be
able to do TCP/IP programming.

The Merlin and Warp Connect code delivers the TCP/IP .dll and .h files
needed to do TCP/IP programming with the IBM compilers. The Borland and
Watcom Compilers will also work with these or come with their own versions.

The IBM OS/2 TCP/IP V2 (16bit) developers kit. You might find the same info/docs on the net somewhere, it's mostly just the relevant header files and docs.

Regards.

1. TCP/IP Programming without the TCP/IP Programming toolkit?

Is it possible to write TCP/IP Programs without the TCP/IP toolkit? It
seems a bit costly if all you want to do is write shareware type programs
and tools. Thanks.
