Invoking a OS/2 cmd file from a DOS desktop using what kind of TCP/IP?

Post by L.. » Sat, 07 Jan 1995 04:11:24

I want to be able to run Windows for Workgroups or Windows '95 desktops
and invoke OS/2 command or MKS shell scripts from the "desktops".

How? Whose TCP/IP packages support this?

TIA,

Lee

Lee,

While you can start a batch file from a .cmd file, you cannot do it the other way round.

If you want to start an OS/2 .cmd file, you would need to use OS/2's tcpip.  However, you would
only be able to see OS/2 text-based programs run.  DOS programs can be started - and run to
completion - but you won't be able to view them in a tcpip session.

Basic rule of thumb is that if you want to see a DOS program run, use a DOS-based
tcpip; If you want to run OS/2 programs, use tcpip for OS/2.

there is a program called os2execd.exe that you can use for it.
You must start this program in a OS/2 session, and than you can pipe
some comands from a DOS/WINDOWS session into this "waiting" window.
Now you are able to start ONE OS/2 session from DOS.

If you don't find a newer version on another place you can get it
from my ftp:

ftp://pub/os2/OS2EXEC.ZIP

How do you invoke an OS/2 LANserver command file from a DOS prompt of a
Windows for Workgroups Desktop?

Is this possible on a TCP/IP network? Novell?
