Light table folders

Light table folders

I am having a problem with the light table folders that maybe someone
can help me with. I have been using these folders more and more and I
find that it has problem reading certain jpg files. What happens is that
after moving the problem graphic file to the folder the thread that
creates the large light table view of the icon when the folder is open
continually fails at creating the image or the icon stays at the regular
icon size within the boarder of the light table view. This locks up that
particular thread and the file cannot be moved or deleted until the
system is rebooted. This also creates an entry in the system log error
summary each time the system tries to create the light table view and
fails. The problem graphics seam to be totally random and I am having
problems with about 5 to 10% of the files. I have tried converting the
file to a bmp file using PMView and the new bmp file I have no problem
with. When I then convert the new bmp file to a new jpg file I still
have the problem with the new file. The only way around it that I have
found is to crop the file down about 10 to 20% and create a new file. It
is interesting to note that if I only crop it slightly the new file also
creates the same problem. I remember Candybarz having a problem with
some jpg files for window title bars and wander if this is simply an
OS/2 bug that has never been addressed.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Could it be that the problem lies with certain formats of JPEG files? I
remember that the OS/2 picture viewer IB.EXE isn't capable of processing
all JPEG files, e.g. progressive JPEGs. If you start IB.EXE with such a
file it will display an error message and lock the file until reboot.
I guess the only way to avoid this is to create new JPEGs with e.g.
PMView and turn off the "offending" options. If that doesn't help...
Well, your problem once was mine, too, and let me stop using the light
tables.

I desperately searched for quite a while to find a solution to this
problem, 'cause I
used the light table an incredible bit.  (Hey, when you've got your
portfolio
on disk, what better way to quickly find all your stuff?)  Of course,
I ran into
the same agonizing problem of the built in viewer getting 'plugged
up'.

Anyways, through intense searching of DejaNews, I found someone
suggesting
to install ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/dev/mm/pvu110.zip which I
believe
is an upgrade or something to 'Lightning Browser'.  It has two parts,
one is
the upgrade, and the other is MM-support for Progressive JPEGs.  I
installed
the progressive JPEG support through MultiMedia Install, and ta-da!
No
more* light tables!!!!  (Well, maybe everyone once and a while,
but
I think those might've been corrupt files).

Anyways, hope that helps.

Jeff.
