Help Uncompressing *.DSK files.

Hi,
I just got OS2 for windows installed and I've downloaded a few
fixes which are in *.dsk format.  What utility do you use to uncompress
these files?  I suppose these programs are uncompressed to floppies, yes/no?

All help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Mark.

Yes, DSK means diskette image. You nees the loaddskf.exe utility (runs under both
OS/2 and DOS). Look for /pub/os2/ews/loddf.zip on software.watson.ibm.com & mirrors
thereof.

1. *VERY* usefull trick with *.dsk files

I haven't got the email addr for the author of Stupid OS/2 tricks, so pass
this on to him:

When you have an installation program on CD or Fileserver that is in *.DSK
format, make a VDM using VDISK (see help VDISK). When you've tested that it
runs fine, copy the image file to another filename and boot through it. Now
you can loaddskf filename A:, where A: is the virtual DrDos6,M$Dos5-6 image
and create the DSK VERY fast. Then use something like Norton to dub it to
the local hard disk and unpack the next and next disks using the same method.
NOW you can install the program from local disk to local disk. Most of the
installation programs accept the /r:respons.fil as a parameter and it goes
much faster this way. YOU DON'T NEED TO HAVE ANY FLOPPIES/STIFFIES HANDY!

Hopes this helps someone. If you need to boot from an installation disk,
make another plan.
