GS252PM.ZIP at hobbes (ftp-os2)

Post by Gregory Youngblo » Thu, 29 Oct 1992 22:52:31

I just FTP'd gs252pm.zip from ftp-os2 in pub/os2/new three times.

The first aborted (my fault).  The second time I d/led the file to my
machine and tried it, and got an error saying the end of file or end of
directory or something like that and it couldn't uncompress.

After that, I thought maybe I didn't set binary mode, so I tried again.
The same thing.

Anyone else have that problem?

It was particularly annoying since I pay long distance to have access to
an account with FTP abilities.

Well, I downloaded gs252pm10.zip (I think that's the right name) OK, and installed
it, but when I run it, it hangs the window in which it's running. Not too
wonderful. It just won't respond to keystrokes, and won't even close until
I reboot.

Well, that was a different GS port. I also got a corrupted file when I
retrieved GS252PM.ZIP

Then cancel your 1st post! The two ports of gs to OS/2 both look nice (the
most recent is by Yang, the other is by Elber). Both work on my machine
(386-33, 8M, HPFS, VGA, no-87).

Note that Yang posted a newer 1.0 gs with more drivers. It looks nice. The
Windows version (simtel20.army.mil in pd1:<msdos.postscript>) may also
be useful to folks with VGA, as it permits panning. Elber's and Yang's both
scale. Some version of gs is now being posted to comp.binaries.os2.

Thanks to Elber and Yang.

I saw the other one too, but the GS252PM.ZIP is the one with epson
drivers, which is what i need!

NOTE:  I'LL BE VERY UPSET if the GS252pm.zip coming thru the
COMP.BINARIES.OS2 newsgroup is also corrupted, especially since I've bene
very careful about keeping them on my hard drive.

The service pack will be available soon on a FTP site in Germany which
automatically mirrors software.watson.ibm.com. It's not yet there, I'll
let you know when it is and where.

It is, look on sun0.urz.uni-heidelberg.de in pub/os2/csd (but don`t do it now,
because I`m downloading it right now :-) I had troubles downloading it yesterday
because the connection broke often but I managed to get the first 10 disks and
hope to get the last four today.

Could someone please tell all FTP sites holding the csd that they may pack the
dsk-files with any packer to avoid bandwidth waste!!!

Have you guys tried using killem on these?  It's on hobbes (ftp-os2) and
is in killem20.zoo or zip I believe.  You can either use the pid or the
executable name.  For example, say foo.exe doesn't quit, then crank up
another os2 window and type in:
killem foo.exe
It's worked like a charm for me.

Kills most processes, that's true. So does PSPM, Slay (from running2) and
kill. It does not kill the command line session remaining after having run
Ghostscript, though. That's one's so dead it doesn't even die :)

As already mentioned, it's available in Germany now also from

        ftp.uni-erlangen.de, pub/pc/os2/watson/servpak

so we do now have several sites in Germany. If you feel one is too slow,
try another.

But will that be a german version of the CSD? I guess it will not...
