You have to have the correct version of Solaris.

I believe you need Solaris 2.5.1 HW 11/97 or Solaris 2.6 (maybe a HW
release as well).

Thank you for your answer.

I have tryed 2.5.1 HW 4/97, 2.5.1 HW 8/97 and 2.6 (no HW release).
All of them returned:

ok boot cdrom

cprbooter cprboot
Boot load failed
The file just loaded does not appear to be executable

I have no bootserver, can not boot from cdrom and can not connect a
tape. So the
machine is useless for me.

You require 2.6 HW 3/98 or later...

Many Thanks.

I know now that i have to boot from a Solaris 2.6 HW 3/98 CD.
I plan to install Solaris 2.5.1 on the Ultra-5 by restoring a tape over
net.

format ...
newfs ...
ufsrestore ...
installboot ...

Does the Ultra-5 boot from a restored 2.5.1 System or does the Ultra-5
require
2.6 in any way.

Should be fine as long as you are restoring 11/97 version of 2.5.1 as
this is the only version of 2.5.1 (IIRC) that will work on Ultra5/10's.

Brian.

OK. I get 2.5.1 HW 11/97 and 2.6 HW 3/98 from SUN next Monday.

1. Ultra 1: Can't boot from CDROM

My Ultra-1 cannot boot from the CDROM. Here is what I did:

Probe-scsi shows it at correct target 6:

ok probe-scsi

Target 0 [snipped]

Target 6
Unit 0    Toshiba CD-ROM XM-62017A103704/20/98

I can eject the cdrom without any problem:
ok eject cdrom

When I try to boot from Solaris 7 Install CD:

ok boot cdrom

can't read disk label
can't open disk label package
can't open boot device

I checked the devalias for cdrom and it looks correct:
ok devalias cdrom

I don't know what's gogin on. Is it a bad CD? Do I have to change the CDROM
drives settings (buffer etc?).

I recently aquired this system and has Solaris 8 installed. The system boots
fine. But I cannot use the CDROM drive. I have Solaris 7 Media and wanted to
install that. I have only one drive and internal cdrom on the SCSI bus.
There is a TERM jumper on the cdrom drive but it's in an off position. Is
this a termination problem?

I tried to access the cdrom from within Solaris without any luck.

Thanks in advance.
