How to define Kodak Network printer under HPUX 10.20 ?

Post by Dave Fel » Tue, 27 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I have a networked Kodak color printer, and my recently upgraded HPUX
10.20 machines refuse to talk to it. Other SGI and DEC machines talk to
it fine, but the HP doesn't know how to send a tcpip stream out to the
BSD-type Kodak printer.  HP has worked with me for a few days on this,
and seems to be stumped too. HPUX 9.05 talked to it ok.  Appreciate any
suggestions!

You should always be able to use "lpr" style printing, via SAM. Usually
the remote lpd-daemon use the "raw" name on it's printer queue (or
something in that direction..)

Of course you can't use any options, sight...

WHY CAN*T HP use ppd-files like the rest?? Should solve a lot of problems
with all these new "fancy" printers arriving...

SOLVED!  I found, in an obscure Windows NT section of the printer
manual, NOT in the TCPIP or Unix sections, a note that the NAME of the
printer, as recognized by its network card, MUST be "ps".. The instant I
changed the remote queue to have a remote device NAME = ps I was able to
start printing to the Kodak printer again.

Thanks for the suggestions!

1. hp-ux driver for Kodak thermal printer

I would like to get information on Windows 3.1 or HP-UX drivers for following
Kodak printers : Kodak XLT 7720 and Kodak XLS 8300.  I like to know, if these
drivers are available.
Thanks
