Does HP provide support for the DeskJet Series on hp-ux? Particularly
the 700 or 800 series?

In a roundabout way yes. HP now ship a version of ghostscript which will
contert postscript to PCL. I'd get the latest version of ghostscript of
the net and compile it up for the printers you need to support.

Just some additional notes:

1) Some programs create PCL natively, and will spool to a deskjet unchanged.
(like perfview)

2) There are deskjets with postscript interpreters. I am using a 1600CM
(total cost is less than $1500 for color postscript with an external
JetDirect print server, a pretty good bargain from my perspective)

If you want to print PostScript, you will need the programm
GhostScript, which you can get for free, and a small script for the
Printer spooling system. I wrote such a script (in fact, i modified
existing pcl-scripts) for the DJ-600 series (it will work on almost
all hp-printers using pcl). Contact me if you need further information.
