Is there a xwd to color postscript converter available? I know that
there's xpr -dev ps, but it seems to convert to black/white postscript.

Thanks

Try xwd2ps. We got this software free from Tektronix to use with one
of their colour printers (Phaser PXi III). I think the software is
freely available but Copyright by General Electric, if I remember ...

in the ftp archives. Good luck !

Try using xv-3.00a available from your local ftp archive.  I got mine from
ftp.csc.liv.ac.uk (I think)

You need the athena widgets Xaw4/5 as well !

You can then save the file as a postscript file and away you go, if your
print model supports colour postscript !

Where can one get the Athena widgets *library*?  The archives only have
the header files, not the libraries themselves.  My old copy of the Athena
widget libraries doesn't work well with 9.x HP-UX (e.g. a newly built
ghostview stops with an error finding some routines) ...

Yes, that's true,
try the "Portable Bitmap Tools" (pbmplus) package  e.g.
    xwdtopnm filename.xwd | pnmtops -noturn > filename.ps

works fine with me...
pbmplus can be found at ftp.uni-paderborn.de in /local/graphics/pbmplus.tar.z
or at other mirror sites

You'll of course have to compile it yourself, but for any X package that hasn't
been ported by the people at the Liverpool archive, I generally check

ftp.x.org

in the /R5contrib directory.  The R5 core stuff might be elsewhere in the
filesystem, but it will be there.

BTW, xv 3.10 is out, so I would get that, rather than 3.00a.  It's even
better now.  :-)

There is a program xwd2ps out there that works with Tektronix color PS
printers. I believe it was written at GE or somewhere. I have used it with
Tektronix Phaser III printers and it works pretty well for that, I don't
know how generic it is though. If you can't find a copy, I have an older
(a year old at lease) one somewhere I could dig up. Let me know.

1. converting xwd to colour postscript

Hi, I've got an application (HP OpenView) which prints via X-window
dumps and which i want to print on a colour postscript printer.
The manual says use xpr but that only seems to generate BW (mostly
black) on the printer. So I tried to do it via the pnm (portalble
any map) tools i.e. xwdtopnm and pnmtops (binaries from
hpux.cae.wisc.edu ) but xwdtopnm generates a P3 PPM file which
cannot be converted by pnmtops (because is seems to use a maxval
of 2^16 for the colours althougd the xwd only contains 2^8 colours
as far as I can see). So at the moment I got the source code over
for the xdwtopnm and try to make it generate a P6 file (with 255
colours, but hacking somebody elses code is not my favorite occupation).
Anybody else knows a different solution? xv is not an option 'cause
I want to print in one commandstring which i can fit under my print-
button.
Thanx in advance, Ewald....
