Starbase runtime error

Starbase runtime error

Post by Jeff Cro » Wed, 03 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I am trying to compile the simple red_sign example from the HP
documentation using starbase. I finally figured out how to get all the
correct libraries to link in the correct order so there are no compile
time or link time errors. However, when I run it, it says:

Starbase error 98: X window support library not linked
    Procedure name:      gopen
    File descriptor:     -1
    Device file name:    Unknown
Library location:    X window support (0)
Starbase error 98: X window support library not linked
    Procedure name:      gopen
    File descriptor:     3
    Device file name:    /dev/screen/jwin
Library location:    X window support (0)
Starbase error 98: X window support library not linked
    Procedure name:      gopen
    File descriptor:     3
    Device file name:    /dev/screen/jwin
Library location:    X window support (0)
Starbase error 99: Cannot open a connection to the X server
    Procedure name:      gopen
    File descriptor:     3
    Device file name:    /dev/screen/jwin
    Library location:    SGA (0)
    Other information:   didd_open

I used xwcreate to make a device file in /dev/screen (I'll do it in a
smarter way later). Here is the listing:

% ls -la /dev/screen
total 8
drwxrwxrwx   2 bin      bin         1024 Jan  2 12:24 ./
drwxr-xr-x  13 root     root        3072 Dec 22 16:34 ../
crw-rw-rw-   4 jeff     users     17 0x000008 Jan  2 12:43 jwin
crw-rw-rw-   4 jeff     users     17 0x000008 Jan  2 12:43 wm

So, it looks like it's writeable and it does exist. The window is open
on my screen right now. Finally, here is what I used to compile it:

cc -o red_sign red_sign.c -L/usr/lib/X11R5 -lddbyte -lXwindow -lsb1 -lsb2 \
-lXhp11 -lXext -lX11 -lm

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Starbase runtime error

|I am trying to compile the simple red_sign example from the HP
|documentation using starbase.
...
|cc -o red_sign red_sign.c -L/usr/lib/X11R5 -lddbyte -lXwindow -lsb1 -lsb2 \
|-lXhp11 -lXext -lX11 -lm

The following link command should work for you.  It uses shared
libraries so that the appropriate device drivers will be loaded at run
time.  You should also call gopen with a device driver name of "" so the
library will choose an appropriate device driver for you.

cc -o red_sign red_sign.c -L/usr/lib/X11R5 -lXwindow -lsb \
-lXhp11 -lX11 -lm -ldld

There are example programs and makefiles in /usr/lib/starbase/demos.

1. Bus Error runtime errors

We have had some problems with fortran code producing a "bus error-core dump"
while running. Is this a catch-all system message or what.

os is 9.07
ftn is hp's f77

compiled as so:  f77 -K -U77 pgm.f
