Getting Aserver to start...

Post by Greg Gera » Sun, 01 May 1994 16:42:35

When I try to run Aserver, it complains that it could not resolve
localhost and fails.  I set the env variable to point to 127.0.0.1
and it still fails, thought the man pages claim this will work.

What gives?

Try setting START_LLBD to 1 in /etc/netncsrc.

/etc/hosts *must* have an entry for localhost for Aserver to work
correctly:

    127.0.0.1   localhost

[Don't know why, ain't no sun up in the sky....]

1. problems getting Aserver to load

I want to be able to play audio clips from mosaic documents.  So I try
to get the audio stuff running.

The only clue that audio hardware is in fact in my HP720 workstation is
the presence of a small sony style connector on the back of the machine
marked audio.

I enabled START_LLBD=1 in the netncsrc file.

When I type /usr/audio/bin/Aserver, I get the following:
failed to open /dev/audioIL - Aserver exiting

and yet the /dev directory contains:
crw-rw-rw-   1 root     sys       57 0x208000 Sep  2  1993 audio
crw-rw-rw-   1 root     sys       57 0x208002 Sep  2  1993 audioBA
crw-rw-rw-   1 root     sys       57 0x208003 Sep  2  1993 audioBL
crw-rw-rw-   1 root     sys       57 0x208001 Sep  2  1993 audioBU

any suggestions?
thanks
Ken.
