735/99 vs. 715/80

Which has better performance?  735/99 or 715/80?  They both seem to use
the same processor but what about I/O performance?  I recently had a
choice and opted for the 715/80.

I think the 735 is the better choice.

The 735/99 has one narrow scsi-bus and one fast-wide-differential scsi-bus, a
99 Mhz HP-PA 7100 (256+256 kB L2-cache, 109 SPECint92, 168 SPECfp92).

The 715/80 only has one narrow scsi-bus, a 80 Mhz HP-PA 7100LC (256 kB L2-cache,
83.5 SPECint92, 120.9 SPECfp92).

If you are going to buy a 735, make sure it has a AUI-port on the back.

I have three 735 with only a BNC-connector, and I wanted to replace it
with a AUI, since we are now using 10/100 Mb (TP) everywhere.
The cost per interface was $2000 (yes, two thousand) here in Sweden.
I ended up buying media-converters instead ... only $100 per machine.

I think the 735 is quite another machine than the 715. The 735 is a
server, not a desktop machine. The scsi and scsi differential, another
better bus system. But it makes noise like a server must do, so
recocnise if you will install it on your desktop. The io performanc will
be much better on a 735.

I think they dont have the same processor !!!!!!!!

The 735/99 has the HP-PA-7100 and the 715 has the newer HP-PA-7100LC.
Thus allows mpeg functionality on the 715. The graphics subsystem is
also relevant. The 715/80 has HP ColorRecovery, a 24 Bit Emulation. The
735/99 has CRX system.

Also remember the completely different Memory simms in 735 and 715
machines. Simms are not exchangable and have different prices.

Performance is from HP Computer News:
