Driver developers! Help needed for HPUX Streams Device Driver

Post by Nick Garnet » Fri, 10 Oct 1997 04:00:00

RDI is under contract with HP to develop a PA-RISC/HPUX
portable workstation.  We are integrating PCMCIA into HPUX.
Our initial PC-Card support will be for 56K serial modems.

Strangely and unfortunately, despite that fact that HP is
our customer, they can't seem to help get us information on
developing device drivers under HPUX, other than their Driver
Development Reference and Guide.  These manuals don't address
streams and they don't address serial drivers.

If anyone can help, with any tidbits or people to contact,
please let me know.

Please reply to this news message or e-mail direct to me at

STREAMS is available on 9.X as a independent product and is core on 10.X.
STREAMS is SVR4.2 compliant with only a couple of caveats for some DDI
routines which are not implemented.  There is a manual which describes
any differences.  In general, if one has the standard DDI/DKI and SVID 3
manuals, one can write STREAMS-based drivers without problem and without
doing anything special for HP-UX.  We do use supply a synchronization
model which eliminates the need to use the LOCK/UNLOCK DDI routines and
so forth.  I recommend you get the HP STREAMS manual and see what few
differences you need to deal with and then just go with the standard
docs since we did not put out anything really beyond that.
