Any thoughts on whether the new Palm OS 5 will allow Flash playback on
future ARM based Palm handhelds?

it'll be really easy for palm to use the macromedia sdk and make a version
of macromedia flash 5 for their platform. since no one has seen palm os 5,
it's still unclear what exactly it is though.

cheers,
pt

Hiya pt,

The new OS5 preview is apparently available as a seeding program
on http://www.palmos.com.

There's also been a bit of news about its new capabilities on
wirednews.com and a few other places.

Cheers,

It will be interesting to see if the new Palm OS will offer support of Macromedia Flash content.  If Palm or Macromedia don't create a player for the platform, I'm sure a 3rd party will use the SDK to make it happen.  Especially since the new devices will be using the ARM processor.

1. It's official: Sony Palm OS 5 has Flash Player 5

Exactly what form it will take is uncertain, but the official Sony
website lists Flash Player 5 as part of the software package for the soon
to be released Sony PDA's that run Palm OS 5.

This appears to confirm an earlier report from another website
(http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/juliesgear.html) that says that Flash will
run at full screen resolution on these Sony's. For the Sony NX70V in
question, this is 320x480.
