Before I try to do it, has anyone made an atlas.so for Opteron/Linux?
If I succeed, I'll gladly make it available to others.

I'm trying to use atlas_P4SSE2.so with matlab, and after following Penny
Anderson's instructions about "setenv LAPACK_VERBOSITY" and
"BLAS_VERSION" I get the following error when I start matlab:
libmwlapack: loading /usr/local/matlab/bin/glnx86/atlas_P4SSE2.so
libmwlapack: load error: /usr/local/matlab/bin/glnx86/atlas_P4SSE2.so:
undefined symbol: s_copy
libmwlapack: loading lapack.so
This error is independent of whether or not I compile atlas myself or
use the binaries provided by the atlas folks.
The symbol s_copy is defined in
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/2.96/libg2c.a, but including the
objects from that library in atlas_P4SSE2.so only introduces other
Is this a glibc compatibility problem? Is there an easy fix? Should I be
patient and just wait for release 12.1, whenever that will come out, in
order to get my incremental speed improvements?
