Good news and bad news...
The good news is that I received a response from Microsoft
support on this problem, the text of which appears below.
The bad news is - -none of it worked for me. I would
suggest that some of you try these steps and post the
results to this newsgroup.
In your case you've indicated that you are unable to
synchronize with Msn Money. Neil, there are currently no
issues with the servers. Neil, in some cases the following
steps resolve the issue. Unfortunately, in
some cases we have not been able to establish
synchronization. Please
use the following steps in order. During each attempt to
synchronize,
try while signed in with your passport and while signed
out. These steps
will be time consuming. I apologize for the inconvenience.
The exact steps needed for setting up synchronization can
be found at
<http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q273/4/98
.asp>. Please try the steps to see if the issue is
resolved.
If we continue to have the problem we need to verify that
your passport works and your portfolio is saved on the
server. The way to do this is:
1. Go to www.msn.com <http://www.msn.com>
2. In the upper right hand corner you should see passport
sign in or passport sign out
3. If it says passport sign out click on it
4. When it says passport sign in click on it to sign in
5. Go to your portfolio
6. Under portfolio click on file and choose save portfolio
7. Choose on multiple computers
8. Try to synchronize
If you are able to access your portfolio:
1. Make sure you are signed in with your passport
2. Try to synchronize
3. If it fails sign out of all instances of your passport
4. Try to synchronize
Neil, if the problem is still there we need to start
looking at your computer. If you have a firewall installed
try uninstalling it. After it is uninstalled try to
synchronize.
Next we will reset your security settings for Internet
explorer. We do this by:
1. Right click on you Internet explorer icon and choose
properties
2. Click on the security tab
3. Highlight Internet and choose custom level
4. Make sure it says medium in the reset window and click
reset
5. Click ok and then on the advanced tab
6. Click restore defaults
7. Click on apply then ok
8. Try to synchronize
Neil, if this does not help we need to uninstall and
reinstall the investor software. Please follow the
instructions provided at the following location
<http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q176/8/41
.asp>. Make sure, as a precautionary step, you create a
backup of you data before uninstalling. After reinstalling
the software try to synchronize.
At this time the "my accounts" section on MSN Money is in
beta. It is possible that the problem could be coming from
there. Provided you have up-to-date bank account
information in your money file we can try resetting your
bank accounts on MSN Money. This will remove the accounts
and prevent the section from interfering with the
synchronization process. The way to reset your bank
accounts is:
1. Go to
www.moneycentral.msn.com/banking/accounts/pss/resetmc.asp
<http://www.moneycentral.msn.com/banking/accounts/pss/reset
mc.asp>
2. Choose yes and your bank accounts currently listed on
the site will be removed
3. Try to synchronize
Another step we can try is to delete you temporary
internet files and your passport cookie. We do this by:
1. Click on start and go to find
2. Choose files or folders
4. In the look in window choose drive C
5. When the file appears right click on it and delete it
6. Close the window
7. Right click on your Internet explorer icon
8. Choose properties
9. Under the general tab click on delete files
10. Delete all temporary Internet files
11. Click on clear history to delete the history files
12. Try to synchronize
