Can't do Online Update. Can't Sync

Post by Dave Hoope » Thu, 23 Aug 2001 05:43:22

Since about August 8th I've been unable to complete an online update. I can
resync with Money Central but then can't review my Money Central accounts.
Attempting to do an online update yields a message that something is wrong
with my installation (I'm running Money 2000). I've reinstalled. No joy
there. Attempting to review my Money Central account yields a message that
tells me the server is down. All my equity symbols happen to be correct.

I've noticed in other messages here that I appear to not be the only
customer with similar "connection" problems. Unfortunately there doesn't
appear to be any response from anyone in the know.

What gives? Is online updates no longer a service? Are Microsoft's servers
down (hard to imagine). Has my ISP (cable based) done something? Is there
anyone from Microsoft monitoring this group for this type of problem?

Dave

I too am VERY upset about this. In fact, it does not seem to be
working for anyone except Microsoft employees!

The lack of communication on this issue is disturbing.

I'm getting a bit irritated at this being so blatantly ignored.

All I know is that I've had tickets open on this issue with Money support
for 3 weeks now.  It supposedly has been escalated to Bree, who seems to be
very nice and implied a solution but has yet to get back to me.

The official response I encountered has been "There's no problem on our
side."  But with so many reporting the same error here, we all did the exact
same thing to our computers.  Yeah right.

If I hear anything back I will post my findings.
Take care,
DAE

I mean if someone from MS would simply acknowledge that this is an issue on
their end and that they are agressively looking into it - THAT would even
make me feel better about this whole thing!

With the number of Microsoft Money customers having the same problem and the
deafening silence from the Microsoft Money Team I can only assume that the
Money folks are so far up to their necks in alligators that draining this
swamp is the last thing on their minds at the moment. A Visual Studio.Net
development product I wonder?

Hey team! We are your customers you know. If your having problems just say
so. We'll wait.

LisaLisa has strangely been silent on this. The last she had posted
was to indicate that her sync works fine. But the issue here is that
it is not working in the real world where the customer/users have
"Real Accounts" and who are not operating in any kind of test
environment. So LisaLisa what is up with this. You have been very
forthcoming so far. Every one in this NG has commended you for it. But
please let us know what you found out with the sync problem. Obviosly
since so many customers are having the same issue of not being able to
sync it must definitely be a probem on microsofts side.

Well, they are here answering questions on other topics every day.
Their silence on this important issue is almost as bad as Intuits
technical support.

SOMEONE PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE!!!

Good news and bad news...

The good news is that I received a response from Microsoft
support on this problem, the text of which appears below.

The bad news is - -none of it worked for me. I would
suggest that some of you try these steps and post the
results to this newsgroup.

In your case you've indicated that you are unable to
synchronize with Msn Money. Neil, there are currently no
issues with the servers. Neil, in some cases the following
steps resolve the issue. Unfortunately, in
some cases we have not been able to establish
synchronization. Please
use the following steps in order. During each attempt to
synchronize,
try while signed in with your passport and while signed
out. These steps
will be time consuming. I apologize for the inconvenience.

The exact steps needed for setting up synchronization can
be found at
<http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q273/4/98
.asp>. Please try the steps to see if the issue is
resolved.

If we continue to have the problem we need to verify that
your passport works and your portfolio is saved on the
server. The way to do this is:
1. Go to www.msn.com <http://www.msn.com>
2. In the upper right hand corner you should see passport
sign in or passport sign out
3. If it says passport sign out click on it
4. When it says passport sign in click on it to sign in
5. Go to your portfolio
6. Under portfolio click on file and choose save portfolio
7. Choose on multiple computers
8. Try to synchronize

If you are able to access your portfolio:
1. Make sure you are signed in with your passport
2. Try to synchronize
3. If it fails sign out of all instances of your passport
4. Try to synchronize

Neil, if the problem is still there we need to start
looking at your computer. If you have a firewall installed
try uninstalling it. After it is uninstalled try to
synchronize.

Next we will reset your security settings for Internet
explorer. We do this by:
1. Right click on you Internet explorer icon and choose
properties
2. Click on the security tab
3. Highlight Internet and choose custom level
4. Make sure it says medium in the reset window and click
reset
5. Click ok and then on the advanced tab
6. Click restore defaults
7. Click on apply then ok
8. Try to synchronize

Neil, if this does not help we need to uninstall and
reinstall the investor software. Please follow the
instructions provided at the following location
<http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q176/8/41
.asp>. Make sure, as a precautionary step, you create a
backup of you data before uninstalling. After reinstalling
the software try to synchronize.

At this time the "my accounts" section on MSN Money is in
beta. It is possible that the problem could be coming from
there. Provided you have up-to-date bank account
information in your money file we can try resetting your
bank accounts on MSN Money. This will remove the accounts
and prevent the section from interfering with the
synchronization process. The way to reset your bank
accounts is:
1. Go to
www.moneycentral.msn.com/banking/accounts/pss/resetmc.asp
<http://www.moneycentral.msn.com/banking/accounts/pss/reset
mc.asp>
2. Choose yes and your bank accounts currently listed on
the site will be removed
3. Try to synchronize

Another step we can try is to delete you temporary
internet files and your passport cookie. We do this by:
1. Click on start and go to find
2. Choose files or folders

4. In the look in window choose drive C
5. When the file appears right click on it and delete it
6. Close the window
7. Right click on your Internet explorer icon
8. Choose properties
9. Under the general tab click on delete files
10. Delete all temporary Internet files
11. Click on clear history to delete the history files
12. Try to synchronize

Can't do Online Update. Can't Sync

Post by Doug Edward » Thu, 23 Aug 2001 22:41:41

Hi Neil,

This is the standard pat answer Money support is giving everyone.  I still
can't perform a standard synchronization.  I can however remove all my
information and set all my information up from within Money.  It would seem
if Money can't find my roaming profile for normal synchronizations then why
can it find it to remove all data and set all data up.

Ah, it just the mysteries of Money,

1. Unable to click done after 'Internet Update->Update Now' finishes

Hello all,
I have been using money for about 4 years now (masochist
I guess) and I have encountered a new problem that I
cannot find an answer to.
After I click on 'Interet Updates -> Update Now', Money
does the usual updating of services and upgrades, etc.
The Call Summary window is displayed, where I can review
teh updates, or just click 'OK'.
I typically just click 'OK'. However, once I click 'OK',
Money loses the current window focus, and I am unable to
click on 'Done'. I can regain focus through 'Show
Desktop' then clickin on the Money task again, but I'm
still unable to progress past the 'You have (no)
statements to read' screen.
If I try ending the process, Money displays an error
message that says, 'Money cannot be closed'.
All I can do is terminate (ungracefully) the process.
I have tried re-installing the product with no success.

What gives??? Arggg!!
