I am trying to figure out how to freely move an item inside a frame. In quark i know you just grab it and move it around, it's obvioulsy not as easy in indesign

tried that and it moves the whole fram. Note: I am on a mac

Make sure you don't select the frame. Take the Direct Select tool (Quote Buko:The white or hollow arrow), click on the middle of the image (not the frame), then move to your hearts content.

Also, note that if you click and hold for a second or two before starting to drag, you will get a dimmed preview of the portions of the object that lie outside it's container frame.
