IHMO buy some cheap 020/28 mhz accelerator and 2 or 4 Mb Fast RAM on it,
it'll make your 1200 fly (3 to 4 times faster) and still is 100% compatible
with games. a 28 Mhz 020 is faster than a 25 Mhz 030. The only difference
is that 030 has MMU (not EC030, MMU enables virtual memory, enforcer...
but when you have 6 megs of memory, you don't need virtual memory .
Enforcer is only useful to developpers) and 512 bytes of data cache
which makes it 5 to 10% faster than an equivalent 020.

The 28MHz synchronous accelerators like that made by MTec will probably be
just like the new line of A1200s performance wise.  If you'd be happy with
this then go for it.  But if it's withing your means to get a 50MHz
accelerator like the Panavision M1230XA or DKB Cobra then do that instead.
They can take more RAM, they're noticibly faster at some things, and you don't
lose that much more software then you would with a 28MHz 030.  I haven't
purchased anything in the last 2 years that breaks on my A1230XA.  Only a few
demos have trouble with it as far as I know.

Say what? We don't use a lot of graphics programs, now do we? I have (had
actually, cause I toasted my 1200) 6 megs, but very happy I can use VMM, with
another 4 meg of virtual ram. And really, I USE it.

: but when you have 6 megs of memory, you don't need virtual memory .
: Enforcer is only useful to developpers) and 512 bytes of data cache
: which makes it 5 to 10% faster than an equivalent 020.

68030s have a 256 byte instruction cache, and a 256 byte data cache...

The instruction cache in the 020 provides (on average) a 17% performance
increase.  Typical code mix for the 68000 range is 66.6% instructions,
and 33.3% data.  Thus the data cache is not such a boost as the
instruction cache, but does help and of course enables the CPU to operate
completely from on-chip cache, which the 020 cannot.

1. What are the new Escom A1200's/A4000's like?

So what are the 'new' Escom A1200's like? Are there any changes, such
as more RAM, better CPU ('030 50MHz+), high density disk drive, hard disks
as standard, etc..?

What about the A4000's, especially the Tower? Has it's specs been changed
at all?
