IBM Slots in A2000?

IBM Slots in A2000?

Post by Thomas Johns » Fri, 09 Dec 1994 18:02:44

Is there any way to access the IBM slots on the motherboard in an
A2000 without using a Bridgeboard.  I wish to use an internal modem
taken out of an IBM inside my Amiga.  Is there any way to do this?

    Thank You

Only certain IBM cards will work. I use TBC's(time base correctors)
for video work and these are amiga/pc compatible. there are other
cards that are similar. PC MODEMS however will NOT work unless you
have a bridgeboard or other similar type of PC EMULATOR. then you will
be able to connect modems, VGA cards, and soundboards specifically
made for the PC, into your amiga. If you have a PC relatively
close to your amiga, sell your internal PC modem and get an
EXTERNAL one, it will work with both systems, and then get
an AB swichbox(about $15.00) to just switch the modem over from
one side to the other at the flick of a button.(this is what i do)
also PC INTERNAL modems are a hassle due to IRQ and DMA configurations
and conflicts, external ones are much easier to use, and don't use up
any of your slots(but unfortunately take up some desk space :( )

        GOOD lUCK!\

1. A2000 IBM-ISA SLOTS

Hello all,
I am currently working with BridgeBoard owners to add PC/AT adaptor
cards to A2000's.   The problem is, with the Bridgeboard installed,
there is only 1 16 bit ISA slot remaining.  In order for a BridgeBoard
to be usable, a VGA card and an IDE drive should be added to increase
the hard-disk and video refreshes...
When viewing the 8 bit slots, I noticed the tail half of the slots
are missing, but the holes and motherboard trailings are intact.
The end result would be: 1 Bridgeboard (A2386), 1 VGA CARD, 1 HD/FD
controller... How do I do this??

Can the tail half of a 16 bit slot be soldered into the A2000 M/B to make
the two 8 bit slots into 16 bit slots?  This would allow a standard
SVGA card and a standard IDE controller....

Are there any 8 bit VGA/IDE cards available?  This would allow 1 16 bit
and 1 8 bit card (which still is bound to be faster than Janus Emulat.)

Are there any multi-function boards that have IDE/FLOPPY AND SVGA all
in one 16 bit card???

Should I slap these guys across the face for attempting to run DOS on
an Amiga???

Any info would be GREATLY appreciated!   Thanks!
