A2000 Ram cards

Post by E » Wed, 10 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Does anyone know of any ram cards that work on an A2000 that will
map the ram in non autoconfig space.
        Reason why:I currently have a 40 Mhz 030 with 8 megs 32 bit mem.
When I boot the 32 bit mem in the autoconfig space I am about 10% faster
than when the 32 bit mem is mapped high.  I have 2 megs on my A2091 and 6
megs on an 8 up dip card.  Neither one appears able to map anywhere but in
the autoconfig space.
I was told by someone who had a Supra ram card that it would map
high.  If anyone can confirm or deny this then please let me know.
Also I am not sure what all the jumpers on the 8up card do, so any
info on that will be helpful.

I have a Supra card and it can not be maped high, AFAIK.

Usually only the 'turbo' cards can map memory outside the Zorro-II autoconfig
space. Maybe some odd memory cards can be tricked to map its memory at some
unused memory area (like 512k at the cardridge area $E00000 or some other
area), but i guess that such card is rather rare to find.

What kind of 030 card do you have ? Some cards, like the VXL, can load a
kickstart file onto the 32bit ram (or copy the kickstart from rom), and then
reboot with the 32bit ram enabled, so all 'system structures' like exec task
lists and such reside in 32bit ram. Worth a try, would give you the 10% speed
you talk about.

Not very likely :(

The jumpers on the 8up probably only states how much ram you have on the card,
and maybe what kind of ram also. Probably there is a 'test' jumper also, to be
able to boot the computer even if a ram chip fails, to be able to run a ramtest
program.
