: JK> I too have a 1950 with the same problem, and it is also failing as I

: JK> I would also be interested in any info on this subject. I have

: JK> the board you speak of in an attempt to clean the slide switch with

: JK> from the board and by-passing it.
: That should work (if the switch is the _real_ problem).
: JK> I have heard in a recent usenet discussion that the Hitachi (I think)
: JK> version ^^^^^^^
: Hmmm... every 1950 I've ever seen was made by AOC in Taiwan
This is correct - AOC made all the 1950 series for Commodore. You can call
AOC in the US, ans get parts and a service manual from them. Tell them
you have the Commodore 1950 that AOC OEMed, and Tech Support can help you.

: JK> should
: JK> have been a 3/4 or 1 watt resistor. Someone said that it gets hot
: JK> and prevents
: JK> the monitor from syncing properly resulting in a black screen.
: Now this seems more likely. I've serviced several 1950's that had a blown
: start-up resistor in one of the 2 switch-mode power supplies present on the
: 1950's main board. I always replace with a higher wattage reesistor in this
: case.
: JK> I wish I had more information on this as I wonder if this may be the

: JK> and playing with the switch only gets the monitor to re-sync for a

: JK> I have seen advertised in the latest version of Amiga World (Jan. 95)
: JK> a service manual
: JK> for the C=1950. I think it was from Software Hut. The only reason I
: JK> have not ordered
: JK> one from them is I really HATE these people. I am getting tempted to
: JK> just RISK the
: JK> $20.00 though. Let me know if you find out anything interesting.
: I've always had good dealings with the people at Software Hut. They have
: always been friendly, polite & helpful. I'm surprised at your comment. Had
: problems with them?
: Anyhow will check my 1950 manual & see if I can come up with any help for
: you. I didn't catch the beginning of this thread, so more info on the
: problem would help.
