Jello whirrled

I am looking for the address of the original manufacturer
of C= 1950 Monitors so that I may order the circut board that is
failing as I type. Also, if anyone has had even limited sucess
hacking on the analog switch to keep the monitor alive for a bit
longer, I would like to hear about it.

Please E-mail your responce as I do not get to wade through
Newsgroups very much .

I too have a 1950 with the same problem, and it is also failing as I type.
I would also be interested in any info on this subject.  I have removed
the board you speak of in an attempt to clean the slide switch with little
success. I am now seriously considering completely removing the switch
from the board and by-passing it.

I have heard in a recent usenet discussion that the Hitachi (I think) version
of this monitor has 1/4 watt resistor in the power supply circut that should
have been a 3/4 or 1 watt resistor.  Someone said that it gets hot and prevents
the monitor from syncing properly resulting in a black screen.

I wish I had more information on this as I wonder if this may be the real problem
and playing with the switch only gets the monitor to re-sync for a short time ?
I have seen advertised in the latest version of Amiga World (Jan. 95) a service manual
for the C=1950. I think it was from Software Hut. The only reason I have not ordered
one from them is I really HATE these people.  I am getting tempted to just RISK the
$20.00 though.  Let me know if you find out anything interesting.

That should work (if the switch is the _real_ problem).

Hmmm... every 1950 I've ever seen was made by AOC in Taiwan

Now this seems more likely. I've serviced several 1950's that had a blown
start-up resistor in one of the 2 switch-mode power supplies present on the
1950's main board. I always replace with a higher wattage reesistor in this
case.

I've always had good dealings with the people at Software Hut. They have
always been friendly, polite & helpful. I'm surprised at your comment. Had
problems with them?

Anyhow will check my 1950 manual & see if I can come up with any help for
you. I didn't catch the beginning of this thread, so more info on the
problem would help.

I called once looking for new TTL/Analog switch which they said they
had in stock for $28.97.  It seemed like a better deal to buy the whole
board and skip replaceing just the switch.  Let me know what happens.

This is correct - AOC made all the 1950 series for Commodore.  You can call
AOC in the US, ans get parts and a service manual from them.  Tell them
you have the Commodore 1950 that AOC OEMed, and Tech Support can help you.

Can anyone answer the same question for the 1960 monitor, mine is
flaked (it can no longer sync to higher frequencies).  I need technical
info for this model.

Hmmm...I haven't had any problems with them either.  Do you happen to know if
they have 1084 schematics as well?  I need to get them, but I haven't done it
yet is because the only place where I am almost sure offhand would have them
is Grapevine, who I HATE :)  (Tried to order a replacement A2000 PS from them.
Gave up after 1.5 months of waiting...Ordered one from Software Hut for $20
more, although their shipping turned out to be about $5 cheaper, and it got
to me in 3 DAYS.  About a month later, I got the power supply from Grapevine
which I had CANCELLED before I ordered the one from Software Hut.  Took
Grapevine about 4 months after many calls of complaining [including a couple
to my credit card company] before the charges were removed from my credit
card!)

Is it possible to adjust the x-size of a 1950 monitor?

Nope. Called them up and they referred me to some other AOC
dealership/repair place. They said they haven't been making parts for
a while now.

I will have to agree on this point with Grapevine.  I ordered a 3000
motherboard from them.  They screwed with me for 6 months and the thing
never worked.  Needless to say I cancelled.

THIS IS WHAT I REALLY WANT TO KNOW:

Quote:>Is it possible to adjust the x-size of a 1950 monitor?

IS THERE SOME HACK TO DO THIS???  That 2 position switch doesn't do much
good when I'm hooked up to a PC (ONLY for brief laptop work).

Thoughts:  Is that H.SIZE switch some 2 position resistor?  (very
doubtful).  ...or does it switch between 2 different scanning circuits?
(more likely)

Please post responses.
