A3000T 040 -> A3000T 030 ????

Post by Nick Ells » Sun, 01 Sep 1996 04:00:00

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to convert the A3000T 040 (no 030
onboard) to an A3000T 030 by just adding the 030 and the FPU to the two
spots on the motherboard, possible 1 or 2 other support parts?

Or are there fundamental differences that I should just not bother with?

I have learned that the A3000T 040 *IS* the bastard son of the Amiga
series computer such that Accelerators don't have a hope of working
properly :I (I just bought the *storm 060, then find this out :(

I have one option, maybe two if the above is possible.

1. By a A3000T 030 motherboard at $430, and find a good 040 card like the
Warp Engine 4040.

2. Maybe I can just get the 030 and 68882 and put them ON my motherboard
(I have plenty of experience hand soldering fine pitch parts). However, I
don't know if this wonderful unexpandable paper weight (which I still love
dearly) is going to throw me another curve ;) But it would only be about
$50.

Any ex-commodore techs out there? Or others that know what is what with
these two motherboards?

The CS MkII 060 works fine in the A3000T-040 (no 030 or 68882 on the
motherboard).  I have this setup:  OS 3.1&roms; set J102 to 12 from 23 and J104 to 12
from 34.  I had to turn off superscalar in the MkII (CPU060 NS )to get the Emplant Mac
TCP/PPP to work  otherwise all is great.

Um, what were you smoking when you "learned" that?

The *storm Mark II works great in the A3000T-040. Did you follow
the instructions and change the jumpers?

The A3000T-030 is the tricky one, the instructions don't tell you,
but I had to put a 74F08 on the motherboard and jumper to use it
instead of the 74LS244. Then everything works great. It wouldn't hurt
on a 3000T without 030 on board either.

my a3000T/040 did in fact require the 74F08 to work with the MKII/060

My A3000T/030 works perfectly with a *storm MkII 060/50 without
installing this chip, it was really plug and play for me.

Could you expand on this?  I have a 3000T-040 and would like to know all about
it.  The versions of chips.  Version of ADOS.  Etc. etc. etc.
