A2000 and 16-bit ISA slots

Post by jma.. » Sat, 21 Jun 1997 04:00:00

I have a rev 4.4 A2000 and was wondering how difficult it would be
to convert the two 8-bit ISA slots to 16-bit ISA slots.  In other
words putting in the connector in for CN704 and CN705.

No problem at all!  Just find the two connectors, (I ripped them off an
old 286 MB I had lying around) clean them well (the pins that is) and
solder them in.  I have alot of expirence with PCB soldering as I do it
for a liveing, if you are not confident in your soldering find someone
that is Be sure to use a "Noclean solder" and dont forget the flux as the
Amiga MB is 2 sided and you need the flux to carry the solder to the top
of the MB or the slots wont work.  Dont over heat (700 degrees) good
setting for you iron. Use a good Iron and good solder Radio Shack stuff is
junk and not good enough for use on your Amiga!  or mine or anyones
hehehe.  Be carefull!  I am always nervious when working on my AMI even
though I work on PCB's every day

PS  Use a ground strap!  Wrap a wire around your arm and ground it just
for safety!

Not very difficult since all you have to do is solder the connectors an go

May The Soldering skills be with you!

Thanks for the advice!  But I think I'll wait till I've hacked
some other stuff before I take a soldering iron to my precious Amiga.
