MicroBotics 8up! Ram Expansion Card

Post by Cybertoo » Fri, 21 May 1999 04:00:00

Greetings,

Would anyone happen to have the install disk(s)/documentation for
this expansion card they could type/dms and e-mail me, please? I
recently acquired an A2000 with one of these cards installed, but it
doesn't appear to be either configured correctly, or functional (though
the card and the inside of the 2000 were in near-mint condition. I know,
cleanliness is no indicator of functionality). Any assistance would be
greatly appreciated...

Well, is it the SIMM or DIP model? If it is the SIMM model I could scan the
stuff that came with mine and e-mail it to you. As for software I think
MicroBotics released it on Aminet ages ago. It was basically just a ram
checking utility if MY memory is valid.

I remember having to add the memory on my MBX card with a command in
startup-sequence, until I upgraded to kickstart 3.1 when the memory
became auto-adding.

Also, the card needs to know how much memory is on it. I upgraded mine
from 8 to 16 megs but had to use a utility from the installation
diskette to tell it this.

Alas, it's the DIP model... unknown whether the block of jumpers
would be similar or not. Think they would be? This board has a jumper
block labelled 'P1' on the PCB, and their are 7 total jumper pairs in a
single row.

I'll seek the memory checking program on Aminet, thanks! :)

The P1 jumpers on the old 8UP! DIP (rev. 2.0) I had configured the
size of memory installed.  1=On 0=Off

Size (Banks)              1   -   7

2Mb (A1)                  1111110
4Mb (A1+A2)             1111100
6Mb (A1+A2+Z3)       1101000
8Mb (A1+A2+Z3+Z4)  1100000

The disk only contained a memory test program.

What ever you do don't buy any new memory IC's for this board, they
are very expensive.  Source secound hand IC's or try to find a more
modern memory board thet takes simms.

Well if you don't have any luck finding it then contact me directly. I
have a DMS file copy of it.

Cheers.

For the jumper setting check either national amiga tech info center or just do
a simple deja.com search.  I had a similar problem and found the info the
latter way.  Hope this helps.
