This morning through the post with my local newspaper(This is in the East
Midlands), what do I find? A glossy full page brouchure for Escom's PCs. Not
ONCE did I get anything from Commodore like this, Escom have had the Amiga for
ten minutes and I get this. The Amiga is in very safe hands I feel.

Getting a glossy brochure for the Commodore Colt PCs wouldn't have made
me feel warm and fuzzy.

Don't get me wrong: Escom is showing that they have a lot of advertising
dollars to throw around, and I know full well that there's no reason to
advertise Amiga just yet: they have, what, 3900 CD32s to their name?
Still...the Amiga pudding hasn't come out of the Escom oven yet.  When it
does, we can taste it for the proof.

Did you notice the (what I though were) cheap prices?
A P60, 8 meg ram, 400(?)Mb HD etc, etc for 850 UKP.

Am I lagging behind or is this cheap for a pentium?

Oh - was the Amiga featured in this brochure then?  All it shows it that
ESCOM have the money to advertise.  When we see them building Amigas and
putting them in their ads _then_ we can be happy.

Sure it's cheap, but who want's a 60Mhz P5. The 120Mhz has begun shippin and
son intel will relese the P6 processor. When thay do, prices of P5 will drop
even more.

I'll never gonna sell my A4000 if there isn't a better amiga comming out. But
if so is the case, who says i can't have another computer next to my Amiga :)

I wholeheartedly agree.  It shows that Escom have the money to advertise,
that's all at the moment.  It does not mean that they have the commitment to
advertise the Amiga when/if a next generation Amiga is produced.  If they do
put money and time into development of a new Amiga, then I will start
getting a little more exited.

Sorry to be a pessimist.

What I find amusing is, they have, in only 30 days, seemed to have
spent more on advertising than they spent on the whole Amiga buyout deal. or
so it seems.

I was impressed to hear of their newspaper advertising too...

I just bought the Radio Times * and what fell out?

A large glossy Escom adverti*t shot.

What REALLY blows me away is the ammount of stores they already have in the
UK. Ohmigod!

Yowza! When the Amiga is back in production, these blokes are going to shift
machines, I reckon.

Indeed. The massive amount of free advertising they got on the TV

--> Just discovered my first ESCOM ad in an excellent publication from the
--> U.K. called pcPRO (May 1995). What attracted my attention was that
--> included with the magazine was a CD-ROM  that contained Paintshop
--> Pro 3. The cover price was $10.95 Cdn and it was worth the price just
--> to examine the shareware (Office Talk and King's Quest Vii plus several
--> more goodies). While flipping through the pages, I came across a 5
--> page ad from ESCOM that indicated to me that this company sold a large
--> variety of PC stuff. Hopefully, we'll see that product line expanded
--> with non PC-based merchandise as well. At any rate, the ad eye
--> catching if not because the people looked like they came from
--> decades ago but because the prices were in pounds!

It also shows that Escom understands that advertising is necessary to
sell computers.  This implies that there is some chance they will
advertise the Amiga, which puts them well ahead of Commodore.

A recent ABUG meeting (Amiga user group) turned up a user with recent
copies of 'ESCOM MAGAZINE'. It's one of those store freebees, each branch
is handing out. He also showed a standard news paper (on the order of US
to-day, but the British version) which had 8 full page advertisments of
various computer equipment... These guys know the value of ads!

1. NEW - Spot the Escom Ad

Just a quickie for anyone who's interested.

Escom have taken out *four* full page advertisements in todays
Daily Telegraph. They list 127 stores in the UK.

Their UK head office is:

Escom UK Limited, 3 Riverside Way,
Riverside Business Park, IRVINE KA11 5DJ
Tel 01294 222600
Fax 01924 223200

No mention of the Amiga as yet of course, but if they are going to
put the same sort of advertising muscle behind it once production has
restarted they could be the best thing to have happened for years.
