If you are not familiar with direct Java programming and the Java
language, you may want to try one of the RAD (Rapid Application
Development) tools for building Java applets. Or, as many Web
developers choose to do, just go with Javascripting instead for
buttons, graphics, interactivity, etc.

Some good visial RAD Java tools:

Symantec Visual Java:  http://www.symantec.com/domain/cafe/deved/index.html
Asymetrix Jamba: http://www.jamba.com/

Some good Javascripting Web sites:

Netscapes Javascript info:

http://home.netscape.com/comprod/products/navigator/version_2.0/scrip...

and

http://home.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/Gold/handbook/javascript/index.html

Live Software's Javascript Reference site:
http://www.livesoftware.com/jrc/index.html

I hope that helps to get you started!
