3D bar graphs

Post by John A Eikenber » Tue, 04 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Hello,

I was told that it might be possible to create pretty 3D bar graphs
using gnuplot. Like the kind that can be produced using many popular
spreadsheet or database programs. We want to be able to create the
graphs on the fly for a web page on a solaris server.

If gnuplot is not capable of this, any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,

John,

If a commercial graphics package is an option for you, please take a
look at GRAFSMAN/WWW from Soft-tek International, Inc.

You will find a live demonstration on our web site:

http://www.soft-tek.com

It is available today for Sun Solaris and has the ability to generate
charts and graphs on the fly for your web page.  It will automatically
generate an image map for your chart as well.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

3D bar graphs, like perspective pie charts, distort the very
relationships among data that they are intended to display.  I'd suggest
you avoid them.  I also wish I could stamp them out!  If you want your
charts to be pretty, why not just put some nice paisley designs into
them?

1. 2D or 3D bar graphs?

Hello Netters,
can anyone please point out references to
empirical studies on the efficiency of perceiving
two-dimensional as compared to three-dimensional
bar graphs? I am interested in studies looking
at the speed and accuracy of perceiving and
recalling simple graphs that are either rendered
as 2D or as 3D versions.
Any help is appreciated, please mail directly to

Thanks!!
