This should be a FAQ.  Grab the 3.6 beta
<ftp://cmpc1.phys.soton.ac.uk/pub/gnuplot-beta293.tar.gz> and the GD gif
package <http://www.veryComputer.com/;.  Edit (I think) term.h to include gif
support.  configure and compile.  Note that you will be able to produce
TRANSPARENT gifs if desired.  (It would be nice if someone would compile
the MS-Windows and OS/2 versions to include gif support.)

I also like the colors for my gifs to match the X11 driver colors).  Here's
a patch for gif.trm:

static unsigned int gif_color_rgbs[] = {
    0xffffff, /* white - background */
    0x000000, /* black - borders */
    0x404040, /* gray - X & y axes */
    0xff0000, /* red */
    0x00ff00, /* green */
    0x0000ff, /* blue */
    0xff00ff, /* magenta */
    0x00ffff, /* cyan */
    0xa05220, /* sienna */
    0xffa500, /* orange */
    0xff7f50  /* c**/

Quote:};

I also want the X11 colors to match the postscript colors; this time patch
post.trm:

/* Line Types */
"/LTb { BL [] 0 0 0 DL } def\n", /* border */
"/LTa { AL [1 dl 2 dl] 0 setdash 0 0 0 setrgbcolor } def\n", /* axes */
"/LT0 { PL [] 1 0 0 DL } def\n",
"/LT1 { PL [4 dl 2 dl] 0 1 0 DL } def\n",
"/LT2 { PL [2 dl 3 dl] 0 0 1 DL } def\n",
"/LT3 { PL [1 dl 1.5 dl] 1 0 1 DL } def\n",
"/LT4 { PL [5 dl 2 dl 1 dl 2 dl] 0 1 1 DL } def\n",
"/LT5 { PL [4 dl 3 dl 1 dl 3 dl] 0.63 0.32 0.18 DL } def\n",
"/LT6 { PL [2 dl 2 dl 2 dl 4 dl] 1 0.65 0 DL } def\n",
"/LT7 { PL [2 dl 2 dl 2 dl 2 dl 2 dl 4 dl] 1 0.5 0.31 DL } def\n",
"/LT8 { PL [2 dl 2 dl 2 dl 2 dl 2 dl 2 dl 2 dl 4 dl] 0.5 0.5 0.5 DL } def\n",

making .gifs

Post by Benjamin Gilar » Thu, 01 Aug 1996 04:00:00

I am trying to make gnuplot graphs that can be viewed via
netscape.  I have seen in many places that gnuplot outputs
can be made into .gifs and I was wondering how this is done.
I am using UNIX version of gnuplot version 3.5 with a patchlevel of
3.50.1.17

Thanks,

Benjamin I. Gilardi
